As you head west into Yellowstone from Northeast Entrance, after you p@ss Pebble Creek camp ground, watch on your right for a small parking area and sign for Trout Lake. The walk is all UP HILL but a very short distance and worth it. Just go slowly and savor the beauty around you! I have encountered a black bear on that short trail, he eventually ran away, so do be aware, and make noise (forget bells, clap, talk loudly, etc.; I use a bicycle horn - obnoxious, but it can be heard far enough to be effective).

This photo was taken at the end of a very hot, dry summer (2005, with any lucky 2008 won't be nearly so crispy dry) but it gives you some idea of what the lake looks like. You can walk all the way around the lake. You can see cutthroat trout in the water, and sometimes osprey fishing for them. Others have seen otters there, I've not been so lucky!
