Best place to fly into probably depends on where you're coming from and your budget.

Resorts--depends on what your definition of a resort is. If you're looking for amenities such as swimmimg pool, etc., you'll have to stay at a resort outside the Park. Most of the lodging inside Yellowstone is fairly basic. For example, even the hotel rooms don't have televisions. If you get an RV, the only campground with hook-ups is Bridge Bay RV Park. Lodging inside the park may already be booked for the week in conjunction with Labor Day weekend, and possibly also in some of the surrounding gateway communities.

North or West depends on your interests. North side is closer to wildlife viewing in the Lamar Valley and over Dunraven Pa-ss. West side is closer to geyser basins. Whatever you choose, the road between Madison Junction and Norris will be closed so if you are most interested in wildlife viewing you will probably want to stay north. If this is your first visit, I suggest splitting with part of your stay north and part west, particularly if you want to take a day trip from Yellowstone to the Tetons.
