Might want to check out the Madison Arm Resort. It is 8 miles from West Yellowstone, on a lovely lake, and they have cabins that are not very hight in price. Your kids just might see some wild life from the cabin window. We have seen moose, bison, and sand hill cranes when we were there last. Cheap fast food is just a short drive away. www.madisonarmresort.com
The only draw back is you have to go down a dirt (or maybe gravel) road for about 5 miles. We thought it added to the experience.
