Some little kids do very well and can make a lot of distance. Mystic Falls hike is relatively short, I think a mile each way. If he's got plenty of stamina you can continue beyond the falls up to the overlook, which gives great views of the whole Upper Geyser Basin - as I recall, you can see Old Faithful, especially neat at that distance when it erupts, as well as the Inn.

I'm not the one to comment on fishing along the way (I'm nearly clueless about fly fishing), but do check, it seems that someone in your party has to have a permit if not the child himself. Also there may be restrictions, depending on what time of year you're there and so on.
